Weapons Policy and FAQ

The carrying of weapons is prohibited at all high school, collegiate and professional sporting events as well as interscholastic events held at the Alamodome.

How does the Open Carry law affect your visit to the Alamodome?: In January 2016, Texas became the 45^th state to allow the open carry of handguns. Effective September 1, 2021, open carry was expanded to allow anyone over the age of 21 to carry a handgun in a concealed manner or in a holster without a handgun license.

Most Alamodome events are "weapons prohibited" events, per client designation.
Can a person carrying a handgun enter non-public or secure areas of city properties?: No, a person carrying a handgun may not enter non-public or secure areas of city properties.
Where can handguns be prohibited?: Persons with handguns may be prohibited entry into posted public meetings when specific signs have been posted, and into secure or non-public areas of city buildings. In addition, anyone with a firearm is prohibited by state law from carrying firearms into buildings when certain activities are being conducted, including court proceedings, school activities and sporting events, and into the secure areas of airports.

During “Weapons Prohibited” events, handguns, long guns, knives and other weapons are prohibited throughout Alamodome property in all areas.
Does the Open Carry law affect carrying rifles or long guns?: No. The new laws do not change the carrying of rifles or long guns. Long guns are not permitted.
What should I do if I see a person with a handgun or long gun?: If you feel that a person with a weapon is acting in a suspicious manner or causing a disturbance you should contact law enforcement.
Can I bring a knife or pocket knife to the Alamodome?: Knifes are not allowed in the Alamodome.
